For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 1 Corrinthians2:2.
While reading some scriptures in the bible from the letters of Paul to the Corinthians and Galatians I have found that there is another mystery behind Jesus Christ and his crucifixion or him crucified that the modern church has not understood. Paul in his statements challenges me with much insight of the Holy Spirit; he wanted to understand Jesus as a person and his work on the cross. This means that there is Jesus before he was crucified and the Jesus Christ who was crucified and after crucifixion of Jesus his manifestations are different in nature.
Paul did understand the two, there is what we learn from Jesus Christ before he was crucified and also there is what we can learn from Jesus Christ on his crucifixion. What shall I say then is Jesus Christ different in nature? Of course not Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever more Hebrews13; 8. But his manifestation before him crucified is different after his crucifixion and we learn many things from the two manifestations which we need to know as Christians and true followers of Christ Jesus the savoiur Lord in order to follow in the steps of our Lord Jesus Christ as we persevere through this evil world.
The scriptures reveal how we should resolve to know nothing in salvation except Jesus Christ and him crucified which opposes the modern behaviour of salvation where by everyone who comes to salvation almost does not want to know Christ but they want his miracles, popularity, fame, riches minus understanding who Jesus Christ is and what in reality he has done. I wish all Christians could have the same mind that was in Paul, Paul only wanted to demonstrate the power of the Holy Spirit not showing his wisdom he acquired during his learning in the flesh and then he gave a greater weight on the Spiritual progress in Christ, in fact Paul expressions reveal how important it is to be worked by the power of the Holy Spirit than what is worked in the world. The world is the systems and how things operate so if we go by it, then we cannot demonstrate the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will work on those who are willing to know Jesus Christ and him crucified which is hidden in God.
JESUS CHRIST BEFORE CRUCIFIXION;
In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Philippians2; 5-8
Paul brings something very important to note about Jesus Christ during his life before he was taken to die for us on the cross;
The scripture stipulates what we can learn from Jesus Christ that him being in the very nature of God did not want glory rather he preferred to be glorified by God after his work on the cross because that was the will of God. But this has to be understood in details that Jesus Christ manifested in the flesh and he was in the very attributes of human and Paul describes it as likeness of human;
This means that before Jesus Christ was crucified on the cross later to resurrect from the dead was limited like human in terms of doing and experience;
He could get hungry like any human being; The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. Mark11:12
Jesus Christ could also get tired just like us, and Jesus had the same body as we as he could be in one place at a time and he could feel pain as human because he was given the body of human nature which makes him the most humble person you can ever think of. Jesus Christ accepted the nature of the sinful man in order to crucify him on the cross. And all these were the attributes he was limited to before his cross, death and resurrection.
It’s confirmed in the scriptures;
Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire,
But a body you prepared for me; with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.
Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll—I have come to do your will, my God. Hebrews10; 6-7.
When Jesus Christ came into this world he came in the attributes of human and therefore we should learn from them in order to be victorious in Christ Jesus. For he says I have come to do your will and a body prepared for me; Jesus, during his earthly time was humble despite his call, he did not want to take the glory of God because he knew about submission and what you can learn from Jesus Christ before he was crucified is his ministry and character despite his glory as a son of God and that demonstrated that in order to serve the Kingdom of God you must be humble because if you are not humble you cannot serve God. Jesus Christ humbled himself and understood the will of God, that God did not desire sacrifice for sins with blood of bulls but needed Jesus Christ to be the sacrifice for the sins.
By that he accepted the body that was prepared for him to manifest in order to take the same attributes of human by doing that he would know the pain and temptations that came long to destruct the human body so that he can save us during and time of trial. Jesus Christ was not selfish; he also grew in wisdom like any other child from the motherhood. But this he went through because he was setting us the example and that he may take away our weaknesses in the flesh on the cross with crucifixion. So then we should preach Jesus Christ and him crucified that would make us understand the ministry of Jesus Christ during the earthly time and the work done on the cross was another greater ever done by anyone. Of everything we should never forget is the work done by Jesus Christ on the cross and that is the emphasis because the cross did much more to us and there is a lot that happened at the cross.
This teaches us that if Jesus Christ succeeded and avoided temptations through guidance of the Holy Spirit then as Christians who have received the same Holy Spirit that worked in Jesus Christ should have the same mind as Christ did have in order to finish the will of God in the body of Christ.
As Christians, we should have same mind of Christ before his death, burial and resurrection, that being in the attributes of human did not fail to obey God but instead he set an example to move by in order not to excuse ourselves rather looking at him as the savoiur in every aspect of life since he was in very flesh.
Before being crucified, Jesus Christ was denied, was betrayed and was being abused even on his way to the cross but he despised the shame and went to endure the cross which was the will of the Father, he also preached the gospel no matter what circumstances and always went to the synagogue to preach the gospel. We have received the same Jesus Christ who was denied and was abused but never threatened anyone. His humility beats my understanding and he did this in the same attributes of human. So as we Christians after receiving Jesus Christ in our lives then we should reflect on what was done by him during his earthly time in the attributes of man and what was done on the cross and after resurrection from the dead since all have a great significance in a Christian’s life.
JESUS CHRIST CRUCIFIXION;
You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? Galations3:1-3.
Paul reminded the Galatians that Jesus Christ was portrayed to them as Crucified and these people had forgotten and his wondering was how so fast they had been diverted by those who were teaching according to works of the law which was in the flesh to reveal sin but not taking away sins and indeed it was confusion to the Galatians of different gospels as Paul had taught, some would come and tell them another Jesus Christ but before they had accepted Jesus Christ and him crucified.
And now we want to understand the manifestation of Jesus Christ and his crucifixion on the cross in order to allow the crucified Jesus on the cross to work in us, and let the power of the cross work in us.
What we need today is a clear separation from the world – separation from all of those things that drain away our life. The only thing that can make a new creation is the power of the cross.
The cross cuts off the umbilical cord that comes from the world to me and from me to the world. That umbilical cord (my attachment to the world and the world’s attachment to me) is cut off, knotted, and dried up at the cross.
THE SACRIFICE OF THE CROSS
“My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” — “I thirst.” — “It is finished.” –Matthew 27:46, John 19:28, 30.
The first three words on the cross reveal love in its outflow to men. The next three reveal love in the tremendous sacrifice that it brought, necessary to deliver us from our sins and give the victory over every foe. They still reveal the very mind that was in Christ, and that is to be in us as the disposition of our whole life.
“My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” How deep must have been the darkness that overshadowed Him, for not one ray of light could pierce, and He could not say “My Father”! It was this awful desertion breaking in upon that life of childlike fellowship with the Father, in which He had always walked, that caused Him the agony and the bloody sweat in Gethsemane. “O My Father, let this cup pass from Me” — but it might not be, and He bowed His head in submission: “Thy will be done.” It was His love to God and love to man — this yielding Himself to the very uttermost. It is as we learn to believe and to worship that love that we too shall learn to say: “Abba, Father, Thy will be done.”
“I thirst.” The body now gives expression to the terrible experience of what it passed through when the fire of God’s wrath against sin came upon Christ in the hour of His desertion. He had spoken of Dives crying “I am tormented in this flame.” Christ utters His complaint of what He now suffered. Physicians tell us that in crucifixion the whole body is in agony with a terrible fever and pain. Our Lord endured it all and cried: “I thirst”; soul and body was the sacrifice He brought the Father.
And then comes the great word: “It is finished.” All that there was to suffer and endure had been brought as a willing sacrifice; He had finished the work the Father gave Him to do. His love held nothing back. He gave Himself an offering and a sacrifice. Such was the mind of Christ, and such must be the disposition of everyone who owes himself and his life to that sacrifice. The mind that was in Christ must be in us, ready to say: “I am come to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” And every day that our confidence grows fuller in Christ’s finished work must see our heart more entirely yielding itself like Him, a whole burnt offering in the service of God and His love.
THE DEATH OF THE CROSS
“‘Father, into Thy hands I commit My spirit.’ And having said this, He gave up the ghost.” –Luke 23:46.
Like David (Psalm 31:5), Christ had often committed His spirit into the hands of His Father for His daily life and need. But here is something new and very special. He gives up His spirit into the power of death, gives up all control over it, to sink down into the darkness and death of the grave, where He can neither think, nor pray, nor will. He surrenders Himself to the utmost into the Father’s hands, trusting Him to care for Him in the dark, and in due time to raise Him up again.
If we have indeed died in Christ, and are now in faith every day to carry about with us the death of our Lord Jesus, this word is the very one that we need. Just think once again what Christ meant when He said that we must hate and lose our life.
We died in Adam; the life we receive from him is death; there is nothing good or heavenly in us by nature. It is to this inward evil nature, to all the life that we have from this world that we must die. There cannot be any thought of any real holiness without totally dying to this self or “old man.” Many deceive themselves because they seek to be alive in God before they are dead to their own nature — a thing as impossible as it is for a grain of wheat to be alive before it dies. This total dying to self lies at the root of all true piety. The spiritual life must grow out of death.
And if we ask how we can do this, we find the answer in the mind in which Christ died. Like Him we cast ourselves upon God, without knowing how the new life is to be attained; but as we in fellowship with Jesus say, “Father, into Thy hands I commit my spirit,” and depend simply and absolutely upon God to raise us up into the new life, there will be fulfilled in us the wonderful promise of God’s Word concerning the exceeding greatness of His power in us who believe, according to the mighty power which He wrought in Christ when He raised Him from the dead.
This indeed is the true test of faith — a faith that lives every day and every hour in absolute dependence upon the continual and immediate quickening of the divine life in us by God Himself through the Holy Spirit.
The death on the cross is one of the events that you cannot forget, its not that it was the first time to die on the cross but many were crucified but Jesus Christ made more of memory that humanity cannot forget because that is where the covenant of delivering humanity was done and even by the shed of his precious blood, the sin had been put to death and the body of the flesh killed that the Spiritual may resurrect. Without the death of the Lord Jesus Christ then there cannot be resurrection of the Spiritual body. It will all rotate at the death of the flesh through Jesus Christ for the life come through.
At the death of Jesus Christ many things happened which had never happened, the place was filled with darkness, the graves were opened making a signal that the master over death has come in to bring the dead to life. And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.
At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.
When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!” Mathew27:50-54. So the death of Jesus Christ brought many things to life. That is why it is important to carry about the death of Jesus Christ in us that his life may be revealed in us we should not be like the centurions who wanted to first see the wonders at the cross and then believe surely he was the son of God. Let us focus on God that he may reveal his son in us in order to avoid surprises at the last yet we had chances to know him in the flesh that our flesh may die away and partaker the divine nature by the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus.
IT IS FINISHED
“When Jesus had received the vinegar, He said: ‘It is finished.’” — John 19:30.
The seven words of our Lord on the cross reveal to us His mind and disposition. At the beginning of His ministry He said (John 4:34): “My meat is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and TO FINISH HIS WORK.” In all things, the small as well as the great, He should accomplish God’s work. In the High Priestly Prayer at the end of the three years’ ministry He could say (John 17:4): “I have glorified Thee on the earth, I HAVE FINISHED THE WORK which Thou gavest Me to do.” He sacrificed all, and in dying on the cross could in truth say: “It is finished.”
With that word to the Father He laid down His life. With that word He was strengthened, after the terrible agony on the cross, in the knowledge that all was now fulfilled. And with that word He uttered the truth of the gospel of our redemption, that all that was needed for man’s salvation had been accomplished on the cross.
This disposition should characterize every follower of Christ. The mind that was in Him must be in us — it must be our meat, the strength of our life, TO DO THE WILL OF GOD IN ALL THINGS, AND TO FINISH HIS WORK. There may be small things about which we are not conscientious, and so we bring harm to ourselves and to God’s work. Or we draw back before some great thing which demands too much sacrifice. In every case we may find strength to perform our duty in Christ’s word “It is finished.” His finished work secured the victory over every foe. By faith we may appropriate that dying word of Christ on the cross, and find the power for daily living and dying in the fellowship of the crucified Christ.
Child of God, study the inexhaustible treasure contained in this word: “It is finished.” Faith in what Christ accomplished on the cross will enable you to manifest in daily life the spirit of the cross.
Normally Christians have a misconception towards the word “IT IS FINISHED” he said on the cross because they think it was finished that Christians should live any life. But this is wrong Jesus Christ giving the message to the devil that actually what brought him on the cross was to deliver his people from bondage of sin and give life through his sacrifice of the body on the cross of which devil did not understand how God could deliver his people so then Christ is mystery and his works all mysteries hidden and at the same time he was setting an example to us that we have what we are supposed to finish that God has assigned to us, this because he gave God a signal that his will was done at the cross, the crucifixion and it was now possible to forgive his people through his blood, and have the covenant sealed through the blood that was shed, that was the will of God for him to us.
Jesus Christ reflected what he went through since child until the cross, his death was to be on the cross in order to bring many to life through Faith, so him being the servant of God during the earthly time to the end of his ministry, the cross was most pivotal, had it been hindered no one would have life. For Paul understood this, that we actually need to know Christ Jesus and him crucified in order to endure all, he set a milestone while in his human attributes.
The same Holy Spirit who operated in Christ is the same who operates in us today, that we can have power over the flesh.
After the cross or what we call crucifixion Jesus Christ manifestation was different being that he had resurrected and now turned to the Glorious Body and is not limited to be in one place at a time as it was when he was attributed to human nature. The Jesus Christ we have believed in has actually overcome the flesh and now seated at the Right hand of the Father and he being the head of the church that we can be built up together with him in glorifying the Lord of heaven and the earth, the Heavenly God. Christians who have failed to experience the death of the flesh and its desires; they have not known the crucified Jesus Christ and his manifestation after the cross.
The crucified Jesus Christ could no longer be seen with physical eyes rather the spiritual eyes through Faith and his Home, the Heaven as it had been, those who know Jesus after crucifixion they will know his proper home that, the temple was built after three days.
For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”1Corrinthians1; 18-19.
The message of the cross is foolishness to those who have not understood the purpose of the cross and how it should work in us but that reveals that actually the crucified Jesus Christ is the power and the wisdom of God, all the power and wisdom of God is in Christ, see what happened at the cross no one would have thought that cross was meant for salvation yet previously was taken as a curse and it was those who would steal and it was a common thing but God who is Mighty in wisdom used the cross to bring salvation through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and it brought the radical change in the entire earth and in heaven- be crowned as the King of life due to his death on the cross, to the earth – the savoiur and the author, the giver of life, the Loving of all and many more,
But those who mis-understand salvation they need to go back and understand the cross and the work done on the cross, that was Jesus Christ and him crucified that brought also the victorious church him being the head, and other parts joining making a full complete house.
What should I write and what should I leave, that the message of the cross is normally foolish to the perishing why? Because they do not understand what the power of Cross can do, the perishing love flesh yet it was nailed to the cross, they love the world and its passion yet it was also crucified. This means that Christians have not taken advantage to know the crucified Jesus to whom the whole earth submits and the sin overcame by the death on the cross by Christ the Saviour Lord. That actually on the cross we are being set free from trespasses by the blood covenant. But those who have known the cross purpose and why the cross, it is the power of God that saves because salvation came through death on the cross. Because it was where God showed his power in Christ to save the world, any Christian who has that principle will not be amongst the perishing. The foolish will perish and those are the ones who continue to do what is contrary to what the cross overcame through the Lord Jesus Christ’s death.
This power of the cross will be understood when you know about the crucified Jesus, and this is a life changing life and experiential life, it’s not a theological word, or the event that happened sometime back. Of course not but the power of the cross is Spiritual and making the manifest of Christ in the flesh evident killing away all the desires of this world.
By Jesus death on the cross was crucifying the desire of the flesh that is corruptible and vulnerable to sin which creates death of the Spirit, so then he died that he will raise the dead from spiritual death to receive incorruptible body and that is the Spiritual Body and that through it he would make a residence in that body, his resurrection from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit was tremendous to the life of the Christian believer. But even when Jesus Christ has brought the life of resurrection from the Spiritual death still many Christians are still living the life of the old man” Adam of sin” and this means that they have not realized the power of the Holy Spirit to deliver them from the power of the Spiritual death, many Christians do not know what is happening to the church of God he is preparing in the heavenly places the Spiritual Kingdom of God, this is because they are still Spiritually dead.
The purpose of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead was to deliver people from the Spiritual death because of sin so that in the age to come they will receive the eternal life. So eternal life is the hope we received in Christ Jesus by Faith in Christ focusing on unseen things because they are eternal not the physical which are passing away, so those who trust in the physical dimensions and its things have are in danger to die again because of sin and of the flesh but things which are seen are passing away plus all its desires.
And you being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made a live together with him having forgiven your trespasses. Colossians2:13.
My desire to all Christians is that may know the Lord Jesus Christ and him crucified. And let the power of the cross work in them that the power of God Almighty may be evident in the flesh through the Holy Spirit.
Peace to you all the elect who were called to the grace of this sweet salvation which only can be revealed in Christ Jesus. Praise be to him forever more.
