THE CALLING OF A PASTOR -TEACHER AND THE CHURCH UNDER POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
A MUST READ FOR ALL CHRISTIANS IN THE WORLD.
This generation church needs the prophets and the pastor-teachers to bring victory of the Holy Spirit in the church, because it would expose more of the devil plans and sin would be exposed in the church through anointing of the prophets and the pastor- teachers would be working towards teaching the word of God in depth, and the two callings should be active in the church and this will be supported by the vast of intercessors to destroy the attacks of the enemy since the Holy Spirit operates freely in the church and everyone would reach the fullness of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
So the current church will need leadership of the Prophets and the Pastor-teachers to teach the holiness and the righteousness of God through the Holy Spirit power. This is because Pastors will bring Love in the church, teachers would make sure people are strong in the word of God and then the Prophets would bring the holiness and righteousness of God, intercessors would stand against the Enemy attacks and all these are works of the Holy Spirit.
The Greek word translated as pastor is simply the word for a shepherd. A shepherd is a person who cares for a flock of sheep. He leads them to a place where they can find food and water. He keeps the flock together, so it is safe from attack. At the same time each sheep receives individual attention. Those that stray are brought back to the flock, and any sick sheep is healed. Each one is known by name.
The elder who is a pastor-teacher has two similar functions.
Formation of Character
Formation of Character
The first is the formation of Christian character. In this every Christian receives individual care. Each one must be helped to grow to full Christian maturity, as measured by the stature of Christ. The elder does this by teaching the Word, feeding the hungry, healing the sick, binding up the broken-hearted, and releasing those who are captives of Satan. At the same time he must discipline those who wander from the true way. In Titus 2:15, Paul sums this up in three words: teach, encourage, rebuke. This is the work of the pastor and teacher.
At the same time elders must be careful not to dominate the lives of those whom they are discipling. It is very easy for young Christians to become too dependent on their elders. Instead each Christian should be taught to listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Then by reading the Bible and following the leading of the Spirit he will be able to grow on his own (I John 2:27). The elder will then only need to exercise oversight; giving encouragement and correcting mistakes. The aim is for each Christian to grow to a level of maturity where he can walk in the Spirit, and not be too dependent on an elder.
The pastor – teacher must also release each believer into his ministry. The New Testament teaches that every believer has a ministry, or area of service to God. The elders must help each Christian to discern what his gifts are, and equip him for service in the ministry to which God has called him. The elder will teach and pray and lead by example, so that every member of the Church grows to maturity.
The second function of the elder is to build relationships among Church members. Just as the shepherd keeps his flock together, so the elder will work to build up the whole body of believers. A Church is a group of believers who have been bound together in a closely-knit unity (Fellowship). It is the responsibility of the elders to take a group of disciples, and build strong relationships between them. In this way the whole body is joined together, and grows and builds itself up in love.
This aspect of the pastor and teacher’s work is clearly demonstrated in Paul’s letters. A large part of them is devoted to building relationships. Paul is not just concerned about teaching doctrine, he also teaches the believers how to relate to each other. And often a whole chapter is given to strengthening his own relationship with the Church.
The Pastor’s work
The best example of an elder working as a pastor and teacher is the ministry of Jesus to his disciples. He chose twelve men and worked with them for three years (Mark 3:14). Each one of them was given individual attention. Jesus taught and trained them so that they would grow to maturity. At the same time he built strong relationships between the twelve. He prepared them to work as a unit once he was gone. This pattern should be followed by every elder who is a pastor-teacher.
Each Church should be ruled over by a number of elders. It is clear from the ministry of Jesus, that one elder cannot disciple more than twelve men. And where the men have wives and children, twelve may be too many. Each pastor and teacher would have responsibility for discipling a group of about ten men. He would help them grow to Christian maturity. The prophet would be responsible for discipling any potential prophets in the Church. The evangelist would take care of any budding evangelists. Each Church member would have a strong relationship with one of the elders.
The pastor-teacher would not necessarily hold a special meeting with those for whom he is responsible. Discipling would take place through regular contact during the normal meetings of the Church. The elder would also meet with each one individually when this was necessary. A pastor-teacher is not a cell-group leader but a person who has a strong relationship with a number of people in the Church. Discipling does not take place in a special group meeting, but within strong personal relationships in any situation. For example, the best way to disciple an evangelist is out in the world sharing the gospel together.
The elders would work together at their task. Because they each have different gifts and experience they would be able to complement each other. If an elder met a situation he could not handle, he would call on another who had the appropriate gifts. And each elder would be responsible to the other elders for the way he exercises his ministry.
It is common today to make a distinction between the role of pastor and the role of teacher. This arises from a false understanding of what the New Testament means by “teaching”. We mostly think of teaching as a transfer of information and skills. Modern teaching is usually a process whereby an expert passes on information to a group of students. They are quite free to ignore what is taught.
For the early Christians teaching was something quite different. They saw it as an activity involving personal direction and an exercise of authority. It took place within a relationship where the teacher had authority over the student. A student would submit himself to a teacher, whose lifestyle he admired. His aim would be to learn the way of life, and the truths which underlay it. So a teacher did not just give his views. He laid out what he expected the student to believe, and the way he expected him to live. So teaching in the New Testament was more like what we call “discipling”. It included the formation of character.
We can see this in the way that Jesus taught his twelve disciples. He did not just impart information to them. By living in close proximity with them for three years, he developed a strong relationship with them. They submitted to Jesus and carried out all his instructions. He had complete authority over them. In this way he formed their lives into a likeness of his own. And throughout the New Testament, teaching takes place within a similar pastoral relationship. This means that the “pastor and teacher: meaning some can be a teacher not a Pastor and someone can be a Pastor not a teacher, but where the Holy Spirit is operates he can decide to give a Pastor a gift of teaching and also a teacher a gift of tendering the flock but their primary roles remain the way they are . Not every teacher is a pastor, and not every pastor is a teacher but we need the two to be merged in one role as a Pastor-teacher (I Timothy 3:2).
In the modern church, preaching is over emphasised. There is no indication in the New Testament that a pastor should have preaching skills
Preaching belongs in the world. In the New Testament, preaching was used for evangelism. The good preachers in the church should be taken out of their pulpits and sent into the market places to proclaim the good news to the world.
In fact in this modern church pastors I have only seen Preachers who are just supposed to be evangelists in market places, alongside the road to preach the gospel other than being the Church Pastors because preaching should be for the world not for the believers and the believers should be taught how to dwell in the word of God and apply it in their daily lives and accept God’s authority in every human activity where they have authority. But today things are different most pastors who claim to be pastors have called themselves and that’s why the church is astray, to Pastor is not something you can take upon yourself but rather it should be the gift and a call from Jesus Christ, some Pastors who are called by Jesus Christ as a primary role is often added the gift of teaching by the Holy Spirit because it could be difficult to be a Pastor without a gift of teaching the flock to dwell in the word of God deeply.
This generation needs Pastors who are teachers and they should be under the Authority of the Holy Spirit to guide them and give them insight about the mystery of Gospel, and the mystery of Christ and his word. The reason why the church of God has been made astray is that most pastors who claim to be pastors are good street preachers or evangelists and that’s why the flock of God has been deceived because people did not understand their callings and where they should belong, imagine each person who comes up with scriptures wants to start up a church without being called in the Kingdom of Heaven, people are starting up Christ Churches as if it were a business competition and this has given the a chance the devil to enter into a Church and defiles because, the devil understands authority better than Humans because he knows a person must be called by God and Jesus Christ himself and there he should be still accredited by God and this process is way too long to achieve until God instructs such a person to begin a Church of God. If a church has been commissioned by Jesus Christ to commence God’s work then the Holy Spirit will be poured out in the church to do the gifting in order to build the Body of Christ and perfect the saints of the Most high and this will increase growth of Christians in Spirit in the church to pertain the image of Christ Jesus and reach his fullness and stature.
I was surprised recently by someone who was striving hard to be singing in a church choir and she thought that she is doing God’s work and she thought it was a calling from God, and this is not true and many people or Christians are struggling to join choirs in the church and think they are fulfilling their callings and this is very wrong and there is nothing like singing to be a call for any person. For God created everyone to sing, and some can just have a slight gift of singing but it’s not a calling and now the Devil has deceived most Christians to think they working for God in the name of singing in the choir and this will only make them labour in vain and will be cast in hell for being not doing God’s work in the church.
This has shown me how Christians are even ignorant about the Callings Jesus Christ has left for the church and if this is not well understood then Christians will continue to be tossed by the false prophets that arise and this has hindered a lot the work of God to go forward because Christians are caught off side and their gifts and callings have been quenched by the modern churches and modern fake pastors who have called themselves and some were called but they did not wait on God to give them keys of the Kingdom to begin the Church and therefore they were defiled and this has diverted most percentage of Christians in this generation and as long as Christians do go back to Repentance and set themselves apart to find out truth from God they will be lost for a long time hence no realization of their callings and hence Hell fire for not working, instead of Christians looking to know God’s calling and will in their lives they are busy struggling to become singers which is not a call but a wastage of time and no progress in the Christians.
Now the modern church has fallen trend of building the Kingdom of God through proclamation of the gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit, because they are ignorant about him and how he should operate in them. Let’s look at how the church should be operating in gifting because that’s where the problem is,
The Operation of the True Church under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit.
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why ita says:
“When he ascended on high, he took many captives
And gave gifts to his people.” (What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regionscHe who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Ephisians4; 4-14.
In the scriptures the bible shows us how the Church should be operating when all the callings of Christians are manifesting because if all the Christians are working then the church cannot be deceived by false pastors or cunning men because it would have reached its fullness in the knowledge of Jesus Christ. The reason why the current church is being led astray is because people are not in their callings and their gifts are quenched because the Holy Spirit is not in church to help Christians know themselves in their standing of the Kingdom of God and how they can contribute to the body of Christ and therefore no realization of the gifts and hence most Christians do not know who they are in the presence of God, if they did they would bear much fruit for the Lord Jesus Christ and the body of Christ or the Church of Christ would be fully equipped and be filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ cannot fill his spirit to the Christian who is not even aware of his or her calling, most Christians are running after making up choirs to sing and this is wastage of time and delaying the Church victory and Revival, if all Christians would know their callings everyone would stand in the calling and then the Kingdom of God would be established and hence Victory, the modern church is led by self-proclaimed pastors or apostles who own the church and therefore Jesus Christ is not their Head meaning the Holy Spirit cannot dwell there and it will mean that no gifts are given to the Christians by the Holy Spirit since the presiding pastor is the one who appoints the servants, ministers in the church not the Holy Spirit and this has led to the collapse of the church filled with sin, the pastors is the one who knows God only, he preaches, teaches, he appoints ministers of the church and this all wrong it means he has owned the church and that is church business.
A person cannot understand someone’s ability except the Holy Spirit , Christians have been misplaced in the church on wrong callings and hence difficult to do God’s work and that’s why we see many immature preachers on the streets proclaiming the wrong gospel of Jesus Christ and this is the same on the televisions and Radios, because they have never been taught by the Holy Spirit and instead they scattering the sheep of Jesus Christ, if the church has all gifts working in the congregation not being under one top Dog who does everything, the Christians would grow in the Spirit and maturity of the knowledge of Jesus Christ and such a church would not allow the enemy to come into the church to defile it, because Prophets and intercessors would be in the church to stand against the works of the devil because God is revealing to them, and teachers would be teaching how the people should apply the relevance of God’s word into lives of the Christians, this can be at Christians Homes, Businesses, and the State where they have authority, pastors would guide the flock, and teaching relations to Christians how they can submit or acknowledge God’s authority and Pastors reflect the gift of Love in the church and the prophets will bring Holiness and righteousness of God because they see more than others and this would encourage the church to have fear of God and dwell in holiness and righteousness.
But all this will work if the Holy Spirit has been given authority in the church to operate and show his power and guide Christians, its very sad that most Christians sing about the Holy Spirit in this error but he does not operate in them and even they don’t know him, its really sad news for most Christians you can imagine who will take them to Heaven? Because he doesn’t dwell in them, its good to have faith in Christ when its based on the knowledge of God. But it’s pointless when it’s based on assumption where Christians have the Holy Spirit and he doesn’t guide them, direct them, counsel them and enable them do God’s work.
The church should operate under the power of the Holy Spirit and also have direction and guidance of the Holy Spirit, if this happens the Body of Jesus Christ will be built up and then saints will be perfected and then Gifts of the Holy Spirit matured and will be available for all Christians.
Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed. You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines. 1 Corrinthians12; 1-11,
If the church is under operation and authority of the Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ being the Head of the Church then all the above gifts should be manifesting and working for the edification of the church of Jesus Christ and that would perfect the saints and help the saints grow in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ and the people will be filled with the Holy Spirit to accomplish God’s purposes on earth and hence bringing the church into victory and such church will be ready for the rapture. And Jesus Christ will take them because Gifts have been used to build up the kingdom of God and perfect Christians to fulfill their callings, the church should never have uniform workings of Christians and the abilities should be different and speaking in tongues should be different not uniform and they should never teach how to speak in tongues or copy one another, that would be self-imposed church not Jesus Christ Church, the Church under power of the Holy Spirit should be empowered by the Holy Spirit and therefore each gift would come from the Holy spirit without copying one another.
Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized byc one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be? But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 1 Corrinthians12; 12-30
We must remember that the church is like a Car where all its parts are important and if one is missing the car would not perfectly move and even some would affect the car and hinder it from moving, so the Car cannot move without a driver and a conductor and in this case we take an example of A Taxi where the Driver works in conjunction with the Conductor and the Driver here is Jesus Christ and the conductor here is the Holy Spirit, and this will enable the passengers to move without confusion, the Holy Spirit gifts the church and then the church move in the direction of Jesus Christ being the driver, but if we don’t pay attention to the conductor who knows all stages where we can pass to the main city we shall be misled, so the church needs all to be at work and that’s the head of the church Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit guiding Christians in their gifts to fulfill God’s work of building the Body of Christ and more so the Christians will be needed in the ministry but guided and directed by the Holy Spirit because he has been given the power to do so by the driver Our Jesus Christ.
The Church cannot be driven by the pastors because they are all passengers in the taxi and they cannot know where we are going, but it’s only the Driver (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit who know how bad the way could be or how good the way could be because they have been carrying passengers to heaven for a long time. Therefore let’s leave the work to the Holy Spirit and he will reach us where we are desiring to reach.
Modern churches are contrary to the above, pastors are the only who know and the Christians or the pew does not know and this is very dangerous to the flock because they are misled and they will never have their gifts work since they are quenched in the one pastor or that apostle.
The Example of the Early Church demonstrates how the modern church should operate in order to bring victory have reach fullness of the Lord Jesus Christ and his knowledge.
Now in the church at Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen (who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch) and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.
The two of them, sent on their way by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and sailed from there to Cyprus. When they arrived at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their helper. Acts13; 1-4.
The church at Antioch reveals the weaknesses of the modern church because todays churches are operated under direction men and their programs, but at Antioch we see the Holy Spirit speaking within the church due to different gifts that were manifesting in the church and therefore he knew that since he has been teaching them, they were ready for his work. And he commanded the church to go into fasting and prayer because he had told them to separate Paul and Barnabas that they should be able to get ready for the work he had trained and called them for, but it means they took some time to learn in the presence of the Holy Spirit and imagine the Church at Antioch was under authority and power of the Holy Spirit and this really was amazing and that’s why they were successful since each individual understood his calling in the presence of the Holy Spirit and moreover the Holy Spirit directed the Church how to do God’s work. If the current church was using the Power of the Holy Spirit, we would be more successful and waste no time in places where God has not prepared people to receive the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The Church Antioch shows how disciples became Christians because they were under influence and transformation of the Holy Spirit which led them to be like Jesus Christ in deeds and in behavior,
News of this reached the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. When he arrived and saw what the grace of God had done, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts,He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.
Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul, and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.
During this time some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.) The disciples, as each one was able, decided to provide help for the brothers and sisters living in Judea. This they did, sending their gift to the elders by Barnabas and Saul. Acts11;22-30.
The Church at Antioch demonstrates how the Spirit of Ğod moved in the church and gifted the church and he gloried Jesus Christ in building up the Church of Christ and perfecting the Church through their gifts that were manifesting, teachers were there, prophets were there, apostles were there, evangelists and many more, and this pleased the Holy Spirit to work wonders in the disciples of Jesus Christ by transforming them into Christ alike, hence they were called Christians. But in the modern churches the word Christian become a brand and everyone is a Christian just because he attends a church Sunday service but if you look at the deeds and behavior he or she cannot qualify to be a Christian, the Disciples at Antioch were taught in the word of God, they were transformed from sinful nature into spiritual nature and therefore in works and behavior they resembled Jesus Christ and that’s why they were called Christians initially they were just disciples looking to be Christians after being taught in the word and also it took patience to reach maturity of being called Christians and they were devoted and serious to be called the Christians not like the today branded Christians who do not do anything in work for Christ and they are called Christians.
In conclusion we should look at be taught by the Holy Spirit and go under his direction that’s how we shall the see the attacks of the enemy ahead of us like Agubus who predicted famine at Antioch using the power of the Holy Spirit and this would give the saints or Christians how to prepare and be ready pass through a season and also the Holy Spirit would reveal the plans of the devil and destroys them before they happen, then the church would be called the Rock to that will prevail the gates and hades of Hell, otherwise Jesus Christ has called each one to bear fruits and build up the kingdom of God and this will happen if the Holy spirit is allowed to take direction, and have authority and power to move the church,
These are words from Our Lord Jesus Christ,
You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. John15; 16. Jesus Christ will ask for the fruits out of you and if you cannot bear fruits then you should be cast into Hell and then it will be not good for you.
Therefore take heed and seek the truth and accept the Holy Spirit to guide you, teach, counsel and this will mean to acknowledge his authority in your life and he will enable you bear fruits that will last otherwise you keep wasting time in false churches and you will be left out. Start analyzing your church today and see if it conforms or whether it has even a remembrance of the Church at Antioch then if not just pack during day and run to your home, repent and seek God’s presence so that you may know who you are other than calling yourself a minister of the Lord Jesus Christ, yet he does not know you because you were appointed by your pastors and your false teachers not the Holy Spirit.
I remain Asher Namanya the Bondservant of God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Peace to you all from God the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord and the only Saviour.
